The Metro Area Chess League
The U.S. Chess Center administers the high school league in the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, which runs during the second quarter of school, from November through January. Each school plays six matches against other local high schools during the regular season. Any high school in the metropolitan area may compete in the league. Matches are played Sunday afternoons from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. at the U.S. Chess Center headquarters in downtown Washington. Four players represent a school in each match. The school may send the same four players each week or may change the team roster. The registration fee for each team is $60 for the season. The top four schools in the league will be invited to participate in the play-offs, a round-robin tournament in which each team plays a match against each of the other three teams in the play-offs.
