Rated Beginners Open
On a steamy summer day, 73 players ventured into the basement jungle of the U.S. Chess Center to compete for trophies in four sections of a chess tournament.
In the Adult section, Evans Chirwa won all four games to win top honors.
In the Junior/Senior High School (grades 7 - 12 ) section , the two youngest players in the section, Philip Anderson and Edward Lu were the co-champions, with Philip receiving the first place trophy on tie-breaks.
In the Elementary Section, Elliot Meyerson swept the tournament.
In the Primary Section , Jerry Wu managed four wins against tough conmpetition to bring home the championship trophy.
