Bill (“Captain”) Hook, 1925 – 2010, was a fixture of Washington chess. An artist and photographer, his works line the walls of the U.S. Chess Center. A chess master, Hook was the captain of the British Virgin Islands team in the Chess Olympiads many years. There, he won the Gold Medal playing first board. He defeated many strong players and made friends with many others.

One of the most popular players in the world, Captain Hook was known for his enjoyment of blitz and hosted many strong casual blitz tournaments in his basement. He loved chess and the chess world will miss him.

Eight rounds, double-Swiss style event. Each player plays sixteen games, two with each opponent. Games are Blitz (five minutes) no time delay.

Note that this tournament is all one section. Class prizes are awarded to the top finisher in the rating categories.

Late registration, including at-site, is $50. Grandmasters registering by September 18 are free.

Registration for those who have not registered in advance runs from noon - 1:00 p.m. All players must be members of the USCF or pay an additional $12 fee. This tournament is quick-rated by the USCF. USCF regular ratings are used for pairings and prizes.
