Elementary Team League
2009 - 2010 Season Sees Familiar Result
Greenbriar West Wins

Elementary schools in the Washington metropolitan area are invited to participate each year in the Elementary Team League.
Matches with other schools are held on eight Saturdays from 1:30 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. The registration fee is $75 per school for
the season.
The tentative 2010 - 2011 schedule for matches for is: November 13, December 18, January 8, January 22, February 12, February 26,
March 5 and March 19.
Teams are four students each week. It should not be the same four students each week. (No student may represent the
school more than three times during a season without special permission of the league administration.) The goal is for as
many members of the chess clubs as possible to represent their schools. To be eligible for post-season awards, a school must
have sent at least 20 different students to represent the school.
Normal tournament rules are followed at each match. All players are expected to exhibit the highest level of
sportsmanship. In that manner everyone has a fun time and the kids play lots of great chess.
Each school plays two matches back-to-back each time. Scoring is done on a team basis, with the team that wins the most
games of each match earning a match point. If a match ends in a 2-2 tie the match is recorded as a tie. At the end of the
season, individual games points are used as a tie-breaker, if necessary.
The winning school each year receives a permanent plaque.
