The 30th Eastern Open is history now. The tournament was attended by 174 players and seemingly enjoyed by most. 39 scholastic players took advantage of the reduced scholastic entry fee and many played extremely well. The Open section was won by GM Alex Sherzer and IM Stanis Smetankin with 6.5. Clear third place at 6-2 was GM Sergey Kudrin. Splitting the U2400, U2300 and 4th place at 5.5 were Rodion Rubenchik, Ilye Figler and Matthew Bengtson. Sharing 5th place were Stas Kriventsov, Larry Kaufman, Boris Privman, Peter Bierkens, Ruixin Yang, Gary DeFotis and Peter Minear The U2200 section was won by Christian Vogler with 6-2. Sharing 2nd, 3rd and Top U2000 were Bruce Altschuler, Eric Santarius, and Michael Guber. Sharing 2nd U2000 were Kirk Williams and David Long. The U1900 was won by Gans Sandagsuren with 7-1. Second was Matthew Harding at 6.5 and third was William Barrow with 6. 1st U1700 was Dennis Burke with 4.5. Sharing 2nd U1700 were Mike Eberhardinger, Daniel Yeager, Craig Saperstein and Steven Linett. The U1600 was won by Daniel O'Connor with 6.5. Sharing 2nd, 3rd and Top U1400 were James Frawley, James Barbieri and Jerry Richard. Sharing Top U 1400 were Yang Dai and Darwin Li. The U1300 section was won by Andrew Psaltis with 6.5. John Fite, Sr was second with 6. Peter Noble was 3rd with 5.5 and Antonio Hicks was Top U1100 with 5.5. Dennis Gallagher and Leo Hicks shared 2nd U1100 with 5. Twelve players in the Open section
without FIDE ratings scored well enough to earn FIDE ratable performances:
David Franklin and Jason McKinney won the Quick Championship GM Alex Sherzer won the Blitz Warmup with Tom Murphy in clear second. Two Arlington CC members, Kebadu Belachew and Marvin Lazo scored 2.5 GM Sherzer took the Blitz championship with 8.5/10 with Jason McKinney close behind with 8 points. Games are posted. |
