International Master Larry Kaufman was joined by FIDE Masters Miles Ardaman and Steven Winer at the top of the standings in the 29th Annual Eastern Open. The tournament ran very smoothly under the direction of NTD Michael Atkins. Prize checks were distributed Sunday night or mailed Monday.

A large number of juniors participated again this year. There were many apparent upsets in every section, but with the rating system unable to keep pace with the rapid improvements of many players, the rating upsets may not have been significant.

As many as 10 players achieved FIDE ratable results.
