US Chess Center
Classes for Adults

The Center offers classes for beginner and intermediate adult players. Weeknight classes begin at 7:00 p.m. and last 60 - 90 minutes. All classes are held at our headquarters at 1501 M Street, NW. For more information or to register for any class, please call us at (202) 857-4922.

Adult classes will resume in the fall.

Beginners
Tuesdays at 7:30 p.m. starting November 6, 2007
This is a five-week class for students who do not yet know all of the rules of the game, and possibly none of them. By the conclusion of the course, we expect all students to be able to play a credible game of chess. $120 ($95 for Center members.)

Advanced Beginners
Tuesdays, Next Class Starts April 22, 2008
This is a four-week class for those who know the rules of chess but want to learn elementary strategy. $95 ($70 for Center members).

Intermediate
Tuesdays, Next Class Starts May 1, 2007
This four-week class is taught by a national chess master for tournament players, generally below the rank of expert. Call to register. $95 ($70 for Center members.)

Grandmaster Workshop
Saturday, September 22, 2007
International Grandmaster Sam Palatnik offers a workshop on Saturday, September 22, from 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. for those who are interested in improving their tournament results. Designed for those rated above 1600. Class size will be from 8 - 12. Please register early to reserve a spot. Once we fill we will not accept additional students. $90 per student ($80 for Center members).

Parent/Child Classes
Sundays, Call to Register
A small-group class for parents with their children, this class is held on Sunday afternoons. $145 per pair.

Private Lessons
Individualized lessons are available for adults at the rate of $50 per hour at the Center, or $80 per hour at your home within the Washington metro area. Private lessons for children may become available.
