D.C. Junior Open
January 17 - 18, 2009
  • Open to anyone under age 21.
  • Three sections:
    • Open Section (Open to anyone under age 21)
    • Preteen Section (Open to anyone under age 13 with or without a rating)
    • Preteen Section Under 800 (Open to anyone under age 13 with a national rating under 800)
    • $100 Savings Bond and trophy prizes in the Open Section
    • Preteen champions receive a trophy
  • The top finishing D.C. high school student will be invited to a match to decide who will represent the District in the Denker Tournament of Champions. This also is the Polgar qualifier.
  • 4-Round Swiss System, Time Control: Game/90 in the Open Section, Game/30 in the Preteen Section.
  • Games begin Saturday at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., and on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. in the Open Section
  • In the Preteen Sections, games will begin at 1:00 p.m. and will all be played Saturday afternoon.
  • Entry fee: $20
  • This is a nationally-rated tournament, so USCF membership is required.
  • At site registration will be on Saturday from noon until 12:45 p.m.
  • Players in all sections are expected to play in all four games, with two on each day in the Open Section.
